Highwic – home to 21 children.
See how Colonial Auckland’s upper crust lived at Highwic – one of New Zealand’s finest Carpenter Gothic homes. Built in 1862 by successful businessman and landowner Alfred Buckland, Highwic was home to Alfred’s 21 children. Today the house is furnished with a wonderful selection of antiques, with a hectare of beautiful garden where visitors can still enjoy croquet and a quiet stroll – including the romantic Lover’s Walk.
Located close to Newmarket's boutique shops, Highwic was built from an American house pattern based on country homes on the East Coast of the United States, and provides a refined haven of peace and beauty for visitors. Highwic is available for hire as a venue for functions.
